Serie A- Team of the Season

Today concludes the team of the season series. We used points gained by player according to dingoR to rank them and also provided per 90 teams as well for reference. In the final dingostats weekly of the season we’ll unveil European team of the season early next week.

Buffon 13.1
Nagatomo 6.5
Benatia 9.1
Chiellini 6.9
Cassani 5.9
Vidal 8.2
Parolo 8
Mertens 6.7
Callejón 11.8
Palacio 9.9
Tevez 9.8

Buffon is not only the best goalie but also the MVP of the season. Auguri!  Nagatomo found himself in Mazzari’s system and improved a lot this year in a more forward role. Benatia has been a revelation at Roma and no doubt both Barcelona and Man City are reportedly interested. Chiellini is always solid. Cassani is the Parma RB for those who do not know him; he had an excellent season under Donadoni as they qualified for Europa League.

Parolo is in the same boat as Cassani(Parma/ relatively old); and we might perhaps see him in Brazil. Vidal’s inclusion should not surprise anyone. Mertens has been a personal favorite this year so it is also nice to see him here despite his relatively low points total.

Up front; Callejon is the big surprise. I would have expected Higuain (8.1 pts) to be up there but Callejon has been more consistent and efficient. Of the 2 Argentines who complete our list; Palacio is in and Tevez out of the preliminary World Cup squad.

Per 90

Buffon 0.41
Nagatomo 0.2
Benatia 0.29
Rami 0.23
Lichtsteiner 0.21
Vidal 0.3
Dzemaili 0.29
Mertens 0.31
Destro 0.54
Rossi 0.4
Icardi 0.37

Rami came from Valencia mid season to Milan and has been excellent since. I have not been a big fan of  Lichtsteiner over the years but he has been indispensable for Juve. Napoli squeezes in another midfielder in Dzemaili but loses Callejon up front. Instead we have Rossi who is injury prone, Icardi who is a controversial figure and young  Destro who with Torino’s Immobile (9.6/0.33) have been sensational this season and hopefully will make the cut for Brazil.
